Animal Spirits
The project of “Animal Spirits” comes from my research on the traditional industries under the influences of vulture hedge funds. When traditional industries decay into ruins, financial capital will take advantage to plunder the unexpected assets born in this wasteland and eat them up, thus triggering a series of problems affecting the economy, employment, and social stability and forming an illusion of a seemingly balanced relationship, which brings about new dangers in effect. Pine mushroom, as another possibility in the ruins of capitalism, is condensed into a cross-geographical and cross-cultural process, and raises a more macroscopic question – what does a society look like at this moment of entering the “Anthropocene” if we do not emphasize development and progress? Can human beings coexist in peace with all other species in a discordant but non-predatory manner? I tried to, with a series of installations and experiments, explore the interminable plunder and desire under the ruins of capital.
